We are able to help so many only through the generosity of those who support our mission. Our goal is to help individuals and organizations find opportunities that fit their needs while also helping to support our neighbors. Because of the tremendous need in our area we encourage all levels of volunteer involvement. We are so grateful to those who give their time to make this neighborhood a better place.

We have many opportunities for volunteers here at Neighbors Along the Line. Whether you want to help feed our neighbors, prepare them for the workplace, or tend to their medical needs, we have a place for you. Explore the various opportunities we have listed below.

Medical Clinic

The Neighbors Along the Line Medical Clinic has been an important source of health care for the uninsured in Oklahoma. Our Clinic is facilitated by a volunteer staff of doctors, nurses, and pharmacy technicians. We are always looking for medical professionals to join our team and support our existing staff of remarkable volunteers. This is an excellent opportunity to use your medical expertise, work with a positive and vibrant team and also be involved in an exciting program that has tangible results within the community.

Job Descriptions

  • Doctor- Your primary role as a volunteer doctor will be to apply your medical knowledge and skill to diagnose, treat, facilitate prevention, and help patients manage disease. All patient care is performed at our facility. However, we do refer patients to partnering agencies for lab work, x-rays, MRIs and also for further extended care.
  • Nurse- The primary role of the nurse is to take the patient’s vitals and gather any pertinent diagnoses information for the doctor. Nurses may take part in collaborating with doctor to develop a care plan for the patient.
  • Pharmacy Tech- The primary role of the Pharmacy Technician is to assist with any written prescriptions and dispensed medication given by the doctor. The technician will also reinforce to the patient the doctor’s instructions for proper consumption of the medication. Also, the technician is responsible for recording dispensed medications in the log book.

Food Pantry

Pantry volunteers are an essential part of the N.A.T.L. food distribution process. We appreciate the value that our Pantry workers bring to our organization, and strive to create a fun and meaningful work environment for those who partner with us as volunteers. If you have a willing heart and are able to lift 10-25 lbs., read menu orders, bag groceries, and operate a shopping cart, contact us about joining our team.

Job Descriptions

  • Food Pantry Worker- Pantry workers will usually work one of two different Food Pantry shifts (1:30 p.m.- 3:30 p.m., Monday, Tuesday or Thursday; or 5:00 p.m.- 6:45 p.m., Wednesday or Thursday). Their primary responsibilities are to fill the client food orders and restock the Pantry.
  • Food Pantry Front Desk- Front desk workers will greet Food Pantry clients as they enter the building and guide the client through the pantry process. Upon checking clients in, they will check/develop client files and take orders.  If you are eager to be in a position that allows you to have a lot of client interaction, this position is for you!
  • Food Pick Up Team- Our food pick-ups are on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 10:00 a.m. The pick-up team is responsible for unloading food items from the truck and into the Pantry.

Literacy

Are you interested in helping our clients move toward independence? Then working in our Literacy department is for you! We have opportunities for you to use your expertise to help others reach goals and move toward independence.

Job Descriptions

  • Tutor- An hour a week is all it takes to make a huge impact in someone’s life. If your interest is piqued, here’s a bit of a breakdown of what exactly we need from our tutors: Caring, patient individuals to volunteer one hour, one day a week. These one hour one-on-one tutoring sessions will be with a student (either school-aged or an adult) who will be focusing on a particular problem subject, for example, math, reading, etc. Tutors must be able to interact with their student, helping with homework or engaging with the student on supplemental exercises. A background check will be required for all tutors.
  • Basic Skills Builder- Do you possess a special talent or skill that you are passionate about? Come share it with our neighbors! Skills that would be of particular use currently are: resume building, interviewing skills, computer literacy, work etiquette, etc. We are always looking to host workshops/classes designed to help our neighbors in the workplace.  Please consider giving your time to this cause!
  • Summer Program Volunteer- Do you have extra time in the summer and want to use it to give back to the community? Well the Summer Program Volunteer position is for you.  Each summer, we host a summer reading program for the neighborhood kids! Come volunteer with the many different activities we have for the kids to participate in!

Community Activities

Want to be involved but don’t have the time to volunteer on a weekly basis? Well you’ve found the right place! We have Community Activities throughout the year that we always need help with!

  • WestFest Volunteer: Individuals or groups high school aged and up encouraged here! Help us provide a family friendly, fun, block party type experience! During this event we need help planning, setting up, cooking, running food booths, running a craft booth, and breaking down. If you like big events, this just might be for you.
  • Halloween Spooktacular Volunteer: Help us provide a safe trick-or-treating alternative to our neighbors by giving your time during our annual Spooktacular. We’re looking for individuals or groups that love to work with kids and don’t mind a lot of noise! You could greet our neighbors as they come in or man a carnival booth.
  • Ornament Party Christmas Elf: At Christmas we have Santa Photos and an Ornament make and take craft. Help us make merry with our neighborhood kids! If you have photography skills, craft skills or just like to help with children’s programs then we need you!
